"Grey's Anatomy" and "Criminal Minds" producer Mark Gordon and CBS are developing a TV series version of this year's Jake Gyllenhaal sci-fi thriller "Source Code" says The Hollywood Reporter.
The film followed a soldier who is part of a government experiment which enables him to cross over into another man's identity for the last eight minutes of his life. In this case, the last eight minutes onboard a bombed commuter train to determine who the terrorist is before he strikes again. If he fails, he tries again.
The action/procedural show will follow a similar setup with three former federal agents who are part of the top-secret program, each week they'll jump into the consciousness of people involved in tragic events in order to find the culprits and potentially stop further tragedies from happening.
The film had a pseudo-amnesia subplot, a key twist in the middle, and a big ol' sci-fi macguffin towards the end. A weekly drama will likely eschew all of that in favour of the basic setup of the first act - kind of a "NCIS" meets "Groundhog Day" meets "Quantum Leap". Steven Maeda ("Lie to Me", "Lost") will pen the pilot script.
